Behind the vine
Camille Thiriet - Domaine Camille Thiriet - Burgundy, France
When do you think you fell in love with wine, enough to make a career of it?
In 2008 at the Beaune viticulture school. I wanted to be a ‘Nez’ (a perfumery artisan) before, but I found a great similarity between the idea of creating a perfume and creating a wine.
What story does your wine tell?
Frank, straight wines, with floral, expressive noses. Wines that speak for their terroirs with meticulous vinification applied to every detail.
What misconceptions about wine do you think people should forget?
The sulphites debate…. It really annoys me! We must stop demonizing sulfur. I put it in my wines, even if it's low, for me that low dose is essential.
What great things about wine do you think people should remember?
Sharing, conviviality, exchange, endless discovery.
What is a piece of advice you would give to a woman interested in breaking into the wine world?
That she has to get started, without hesitating. There are more and more women in our community. You often have to prove your skills twice as much, but it's worth it. You have to stay strong and determined.
Who is a woman in wine that you think everyone should know about?
I admire so many women in my profession, here are some of them: Marlène Soria, Dominique Hauvette, Lalou Bize Leroy, Cécile Tremblay… .. and so many others! I also have an association called Mi Filles Mi Raisins where we are all young winegrowers from the region. I am also part of Femmes et Vins de Bourgogne.
Where can women find your wine?
At wine merchants, restaurateurs, wine bars!
